Sinatra, because he starred in 1968's "The Detective" and "Die Hard" was based upon "Nothing Lasts Forever" which was the sequel to The Detective, and Sinatra was contractually offered first right of refusal to play the role. He would have filmed it at age 73, but he turned it down.
