I will tip my hat to Usc regarding their Olympic tracking website. They count and tout all of their Olympic athletes including those that participated in the Winter Olympics throughout the years, although I don't believe they have had any medalists in the Winter games. They claim more Olympians than any other US university, but I don't believe Stanford has taken the time to actually track down all the information and I know we don't include Eric Heiden's 5 gold speed skating medals or Debbie Thomas's figure skating medal. There may well be other Stanford Winter Olympians with medals. You know sc would include any and all.
I know that Earl K in the Stanford AD was very good about tracking Olympic stats. It seems like we could put some student interns into action tracking down all former Olympic athletes with Stanford affiliations. We are clearly closing in on SC and while I applaud this year's Stanford website, I would love to see us get more stats out there regarding our former Olympians, both Summer and Winter. As usual, sc does a good job of tooting their own horn even though we have clearly taken the Olympic momentum over the last 40-50 years. 26 medals is a great accomplishment so hat's off to the 2021 Stanford Olympians!
