Actually among a couple hundred black background historical interviews shot for MLB was Bill Raimondi. He was one of the “Nine Old Men” including Ernie Lombardi who played on a PCL pennant winning Oaks team in the Forties.
If you played Encinal in Alameda, you played at Washington Park. It was their home field as well. Alameda has produced a number of big leaguers, Chris Speier, Willie Stargell, Dontrelle Willis, and, in my parents era, Andy Carey. At one time, the East Bay was a hotbed of baseball talent.
