Could have been any number of things, according to witnesses. He was a boozer, known to bet on horses, had crippling debt. His team was terrible (16-43), he wanted back in the National League and hopped a train on the Canadian side to see his estranged wife. He was kicked off the train for being drunk and disorderly, specifically for brandishing a straight razor at other passengers. Supposedly he was being pursued by a mysterious man. He walked across the International Bridge, had a scuffle with the night watchman Sam Kingston. Kingston said it was too dark to tell if he jumped or fell. He was also yelling about death while he was drunk. Could have jumped, could have fallen, could have been pushed.
