Yeah, USC seems particularly adept at keeping the coaching controversy going through the end of a bad year, declaring that the coach has one more year to right the ship, and then either firing him midway through that year, or see him get a reprieve by doing a bit better, at which point everyone is convinced that he has the program headed "in the right direction", before watching it spectacularly crater and firing the coach mid-season.

I think Helton was almost fired in 2018 after USC went 5-7, and then things were looking up after he went 8-4 in 2019 with Slovis as their QB of the future and a new offensive coordinator, and 5-1 last year.  And then the Stanford game.  There were rumors of Kiffin too being fired in 2012 after he went 7-6, but then he got the dreaded vote of confidence before becoming the original Tarmac'd coach.

I'll leave Sarkisian out of this because his departure was due to substance use issues.  I forgot that it later emerged that he coached drunk against you guys.

I'd note that Sark's substance abuse issues came to light after he was shit-faced drunk at ASU.  As such, even though ASU lost, I'm still claiming at least a portion of credit for getting him fired.  Had he not had so much fun in Tempe that he was drunk during the game, perhaps he'd still be there and never have gone to the Isle of Misfit Coaches that Saban collects every year.

We take a very perverse and enjoyable claim on whatever USC destruction we can, even when it comes at our own expense. Outside of the trailer trash in Tucson, there isn't any body of people we hate more.

As an aside, NEVER get in between ASU and U of A fans. There is a hatred there that is very difficult to explain from the outside looking in. It goes to the political. Arizona tried to stop ASU from being a full fledged university multiple times. Even more recently, they blocked an ASU attempt at starting its own medical school. Then, using the battery that was a U of A loaded board of regents (which governs ASU, Arizona and NAU together), they started a medical school in the same Phoenix area ASU wanted as a conglomerate- Only to run off ASU and NAU before it was even certified. Despite the fact that Arizona's Tucson medical school is becoming a running joke. My sister and her husband took offers there from Johns Hopkins, and ran for the hills within a year. Absolute disaster in multiple fields. But it's more important nobody else plays ball on their turf, at least until Mayo showed up. It can get really, really ugly in AZ.

I understand this is a completely unprompted response. I just think it's very important for other Pac 12 fans to understand that Tucson is full of inveterate trash that should be ground to an absolute pulp.
