Really? I just don’t find marching band tributes to anyone all that good. For one, they basically all sound the same. The Ohio State band’s tribute to Rush sounds indistinguishable from the Cal band’s tribute to the temptations which sounds identical to USC’s tribute to the music of Star Wars. Secondly, I can think of nothing that seems more antithetical to the spirit of Rush than to be played by the OSU band.
That’s not meant to downplay the musicianship or the formations. Nor do I mean this to devolve into a diatribe on why the LSJUMB, whose humor I have outgrown, is better than all these fuddy duddy marching bands. But honestly, when a marching band performs a tribute to something, it just doesn’t resonate with me, even if I like the underlying material.
