The issue for me - and I might add the NFLPA - is seeing how sincere the NFL is with its "stop hate" and "everyone is welcome" campaigns as it attempts to brand itself as inclusive and friendly to all.
The cynics will say of course all that do good in the community, NFL cares stuff is just PR and the owners don't really care about anyone but themselves. But there are a lot of people who might to hold the league in higher esteem and be inclined to be a customer post all that social awareness stuff, and wouldn't be if those emails revealed attitudes that make it clear many people in the NFL are monsters.
Of course, one could argue my desire for truth doesn't override someone else's right to privacy, and be correct. This is similar to the debate about desire to know injury and Covid status of college athletes vs. their right to privacy as amateurs.
All this said, the sheer number of people who want to see the truth is going to create a situation where just throwing Gruden to the wolves isn't going to be enough to satiate the appetite for truth from the WFT investigation. While that truth is withheld, given the Gruden exposure, I will now think less of the NFL than I did after it seemed to make progress on issues important to players. Color me quite skeptical until the NFL comes clean.
