I don't follow football that closely so I don't have an opinion about Shaw (seems like a nice guy in interviews) or the players.  However when I saw how empty the stands were I thought this is embarrassing to Stanford. 

It might be better for Stanford to focus on academics and do away with football.  Just have club sports or start a new west coast conference modeled after the Ivy League.

Well, we have considered that in the past and decided to stick with D-1 football. Taking the big picture into account we have done OK. Let's not overreact to a extraordinary bad loss.

Actually the loss was not the catalyst for my comment.  I'm not that much of a football fan.  I don't get excited when the team wins.  I don't get frustrated when the team loses.  It was the meager number of fans in the stadium.  If there isn't much of a following by alums, the surrounding community, and particularly the students, maybe going in a different direction should be considered.

I understand this is a thread basically for hard core Stanford football fans and there is a lot of frustration.  Stanford did have one really good victory this season so I recognize sports teams have their ups and downs.
