1) Today, Anna Wilson looked like a genuine, terrific point guard, distributing well, making deft passes for assists, and hitting treys of her own from outside. In the second half she got a bit sloppy a couple of times. Also, feeding the ball inside is a lot easier against Clarke than it will be against teams with our athleticism and length, so we won't know how it is working out until after Texas. But so far, so good.
2) At one point we had 3 freshmen, sophomore Emma-Nnopu, and Jerome on the floor together. And those five expanded our lead. We are a very, very deep team. That kind of depth may show up on defense since we can keep fresh, energetic players on the floor at all times. Defense will be one of our strengths.
3) I did not see Belibi take a jump shot in this game as I did in open practice. She didn't need too--clearly it was easy for us to use our height to get the ball inside to our bigs.
4) I wonder about Harriel. She warmed up today and for the open practice but did not play in either.
5) I watched Brook Demetre more today. Her mid range to three point range jump shot is sweet--rarely hits anything but net, and makes that pinpoint accurate swooshing sound. On defense I think she held her own quite well, but against a shorter, inferior team. Will be interesting to see how she holds up against the likes of Texas.
6) Brink was more under control today, I do not think she fouled. She seemed to be making a conscious effort to hold her arms straight up.
7) Bosgana can play. She played point for a while, and has a tendency when doing so to always take the shot herself. She drives well and shoots treys well, and moves quite well for 6'2". I think we will see more of her this year.
8) Jump was back on track after a less-than-awesome open practice. She hit three treys in a row--her trademark is to hit them in spurts.
9) Iriafan was superb with her free throws. Her moves around the basket did not always go in, but she provoked several fouls and converted her free throws. That could get her some playing time.
Is Demetre quick enuf to guard the perimeter?
I think we need to see more of Demetre with regards to her perimeter defense. When she was on the floor in the second half, she was mostly playing the 4.
