Most actively traded mutual funds do worse than an index fund.  There is no evidence that any individual investor can identify which mutual funds will do better than average over the long term.  Even past performance, as they say, is no guarantee of future results.

Half of college coaches are below the median. I really don’t see all that much evidence that AD’s are all that good at picking coaches, and, with relatively few exceptions, past performance doesn’t seem to be a great predictor of future results.
