Oh, I believe you, sir.
DEMETRE is really a Top 10 recruit from the Class of 2021 - Prospect Nation #7 overall, ASGR #8 overall, Blue Star #10, ESPN Hoopgurlz #11 (she originally was ESPN Hoopgurlz #4, then went down to #7, and finally #11). But what makes her special is for a 6'3 player, she already had a 3-point shot in HS. Therefore, she can be considered a stretch Forward/combo Forward. That versatility will get her some playing time, realistically in the vicinity of 10 to 15 minutes/game
Then there's BOSGANA and EMMA-NNOPU, who are in the pipeline of the Greek and Australian senior national teams, respectively. I bet their respective national coaches want to see them as regular rotation players at Stanford ASAP.
At 6'2, BOSGANA is a tall and lanky SG who is aggressive at driving to the basket and can stroke from 3-point range, kinda giving me that Kate STARBIRD vibe. Unfortunately, the HULL twins and JUMP are ahead of her in the SG depth chart, so it will be a major challenge for her to crack the regular rotation this year.
I'm hoping that Bosgana forces her way into the rotation this year. We always have great defensive teams. Wilson, Hamilton, Hull 1, Hull 2, Emma-Nnopu are all great perimeter defenders. And Brink is a great post defender. Plus the team defense and the help rotations are all so good. BUT, against the very best teams, we struggled to score. Yes we still won a lot of those games but if our 3-ball wasn't falling we were in trouble. We lost one of our best offense initiators in Williams to graduation. Yes we still have the amazing Haley Jones. But someone else needs to help initiate the offense. Lexie and Brink can do more. Wilson, Belibi, Lacie, Prechtel and Jump are all better when they receive the ball in scoring position vs initiating the offense. Bosgana looked very good at using her shifty moves, deceptive speed, passing vision and overall length to initiate the offense and either get a shot off in the lane or pass to an open teammate. Haley Jones is clearly the best at that on the team. But hopefully Bosgana gets the chance to develop into a second offense initiator.
I know the team tries to initiate the offense with Prechtel in the high post using her height to find cutters but it always seems a little too slow to develop and the really good defenses will snuff that out, shoot the gap and get a transition bucket going the other way. For that to really work, Prechtel also needs to be a threat to drive from the high post and she just isn't that kind of player.
I totally concur with your assessment of the limitations of Stanford's offense with their lack of personnel WHO CAN INDIVIDUALLY BREAK DOWN the half court defense of outstanding teams. Haley JONES has repeatedly shown that she can do that, and you observed from the exhibition game that Elena BOSGANA can also provide that. Hopefully, Tara and her coaching staff realizes that.
