I got home to see a post on the old HoopsBoard, referring to then-head-coach Trent Johnson as "another Buddy Teevens". That thread, as I recall, set off a bit of a row. They weren't wrong though. They were just two coaches ahead of their time.I went to that arena once when Stanford was not that great the prior year, but I knew people that were Santa Clara alums. They thought Santa Clara would win, but Stanford had this new PG he was AMAZING. It was then that I got to see how one player can really change everything. He was scoring and dishing like no PG I had seen at Stanford. The PG was, of course, Brevin Knight.
The bus ride back to Stanford, I still remember how quiet (and dark) it was. That bus was quiet AF, but at least it was almost full. I can't imagine that will be the case tonight.
In hoops it really can all switch around with just one quality future NBA player. Well, one quality player and a solid coach. :(
Maybe next year.
