Most unbelievable to me is that he stole home 10 times. He was not fast, by any means. He stole 123 bases, got caught 117 times. Gehrig was similarly slow afoot, with an even worse percentage (102 steals, 100 caught) but he stole home 15 times.
By way of comparison, Rickey Henderson stole home just four times and Lou Brock never stole home. Rickey actually commented on it once, stating that up until Rod Carew (17 steals of home), pitchers would work from the windup with a runner on third base. They started to pitch from the stretch prior to Rickey's arrival.
