If we want to make things easier on ourselves and get a little more schedule flexibility I'd rather give up the ND game than either of the LA schools. But that's just me.  Cal, UCLA, and USC are the first through third reasons for me to care about Stanford football.

and USC and UCLA could be non-conference games in the years they are not on our Pac-12 schedule....

That could work. And if I remember correctly, that’s what some of the North Carolina schools do when they’re not on each other’s conference schedules.
