Stanford must be listening to the same advisors that are talking to the Grammy organizers.
The State of California doesn't want to mandate anything at this stage. I think the State, like the federal government, is making a call that businesses just might not survive another shutdown. Compliance with COVID rules now seems highly correlated with those that are already vaccinated and boosted, so forcing new government guidelines will likely have a minimal impact on hospitalizations as the folks in the hospital are generally not vaccinated.
Stanford's fans probably would have a high vaccination rate at this point. However, Stanford athletics doesn't need fans in the stands to survive, so I expect they will continue to do things to keep the case rate low on campus as the university does need faculty to avoid testing positive.
I think they could just go with a 100% vaccination requirement, but honestly only hoops are impacted by this current decision and there is just not that much revenue tied to those events. Oh, and that UCLA gymnastics event too.
I tend to doubt the AD would make the same call if the men's hoops teams was in the top 10, but we will never know as this men's team won't be touching those heights in 2022.
