Not here to bash Monty, who is unquestionably the best and most successful Stanford coach since the Korean War... 

But: it doesn't make any sense not to measure the magnitude of the result relative to expectations. In no fans lived experience does coming in as the overall #1 seed and losing in the second round get offset by coming in a 9th seed and winning one round.

Objectively, there's no way to argue that Monty's teams measurably disappointed in the tournament relative to their seeding much more than they ever overperformed it.
