My man needs an offensive coordinator! Jerod can recruit; his teams can play some defense; he's, like, not a neanderthal; literally the only element missing from his whole gestalt is putting an *average* offense on the floor.

This really is the key right here. If Haase's problem was that his teams are soft and lack Monty-style toughness and sharp elbows, aren't cohesive and don't work together, etc. then you would expect those problems to manifest themselves first on defense. Haase really needs a sharp offensive mind to implement some modern sets and raise the offensive bar it seems. Different sport, but there are certainly multiple examples where a bright, young college football OC had a brobdingnagian effect (Lane Kiffin, Joe Brady, Josh Gattis).
