I posted this on the other board and thought I'd post it here too.

It's a common thought that Haase is a great recruiter. Clearly he's landing a great player pretty much every class. But outside of that, it's a sea of 3*s. (Obviously there have been some external circumstances leading here, but the team is currently what it is.) So...is he?

Here are the current players on the team by 247 composite:
5* frosh Harrison Ingram
4* frosh Isa Silva
4* senior Jaiden Delaire
EIGHT 3* sophs/jrs/srs
Two more 3* frosh

Does 10 3*s on a 13-player team sound like great recruiting to you? Does that sound like "the talent is there?"

IMO, to be truly competitive and "have the talent on paper" to be a competitive team, we should be signing at least one more 4* every class. We need more top 100ish guys who will most likely stay all 4 years and become good veteran players. (Daejon Davis and Jaiden Delaire are cases in point. Cormac Ryan and Tyrell Terry were supposed to be too.) You simply can't rely on the 3* guys to become good veteran players, while the majority of 4*s appear to get there from what I've seen.

I don't think Carlyle is a one-and-done, which is a good thing for us. But to truly be labeled a "great recruiter," Haase needs to land more 4* talent that sticks around. I would argue that lately he is appearing to do so better than in the past couple classes. 2021 has Silva, 2022 has 4* Jaylen Thompson and just-barely-missed-the-4*-cutoff Ryan Agarwal, and again I think Carlyle isn't a OAD. Landing another 4* or two in 2023 would really be building something...but at that point, we'll be on year 8 without a March Madness run, which is just pathetic.
