That's how hopped up I was. I meant 1992. [Edit: Make that 1982. Sports PTSD really is bad. I'm still not over that one, obviously. After the accidental picture came out of the official signaling to stop the clock, I have never trusted the zebras or the sports gods.]
Allen v. Mahomes is Elway v. Montana. Was it Bill Walsh who said he'd take Montana if he got to pick a quarterback for a full game, but Elway if he only had two minutes?
Yes, Josh hasn't won many close games this year. But he does amazing things.
Josh does more stupid things than Mahomes. But not yesterday. And his stupid play rate is way down. I can't think of a single bone headed play in the two playoff games. If I'm right, that's pretty amazing, given all the Bills ask him to do.
Loved Elway. Love Josh. Wouldn't have traded Elway for Montana. Wouldn't trade Josh for Mahomes. It's pretty clear you get more wins with Montana and Mahomes, so you get to be happy more often with them. But it was a hell of a ride with Elway, and it's a hell of a ride with Josh. I just hope Josh gets one someday, like Elway got his at the end of his career. The kid deserves it (though, as Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry said, "Deserve's got nothin to do with it.")
