Second that. I was going to ask you about an updated analysis and you beat me to the punch; thank you!
It sounds like even though we have a really deep and talented team, we are not the only ones and it will be a tough climb to reclaim a national title.
That's pretty much it. Pepperdine, Texas, UNC, Georgia, UCLA, Cal, USC, Duke, UVA.... this feels like a really top-heavy year in women's college tennis. Stanford looks like a top 5 team to me, but then again, so do several other teams.
Latest ITA rankings just dropped, and here's the top 25:
1. Texas
2. UNC
3. Georgia
T4. Cal
T4. UCLA
6. Duke
7. Pepperdine
8. N.C. State
9. UVA
10. UCF
11. Ohio State
12. Georgia Tech
13. Texas A&M
14. Michigan
15. USC (up 2 spots)
16. Stanford (steady)
17. Oklahoma
18. Florida State
19. Florida
20. Tennessee
21. LSU
22. Baylor
23. Miami
24. Oklahoma State
25. Auburn
USC's jump appears to be a belief by the committee that beating Loyola Marymount and USF 4-0 and St. Mary's 4-2 is better than a 7-0 win over UC Davis. Which is fine, I guess? But that's silly. St. Mary's is indeed a better win than we have, but not that much better, and they lost two matches, at 1 and 3! (No Cayetano or Cheong in the lineup for that match, though Cayetano played #1 in the Loyola/USF matches.) If Cheong doesn't play, that knocks USC back a step in my estimation--they don't quite have the same depth we do.
