Baseball has had cheating forever. It’s part of the game.
When Mays was at bat, he used to steal a glance at the catcher to determine both positioning and signs. He didn't do it against Gibson and Drysdale, and probably others who would dust him off. But he did it and admitted to it. And yes, pitchers from back then to today will drill batters whom they suspect of cheating in this fashion.
