That said, one eye opening stat mentioned during the ASU game was that, as of last week, Jones was the top rebounder in the PAC-12. Given the number of large posts across the conference, it's interesting to me that a 6'1" G/F is out-rebounding them all.Me too. Haley also leads the league in turnovers. Ugh.
Sabally and Reese are also having nice seasons, but Cam is simply better than both of them. Assuming we win the conference, it should come down to Cam and Haley.
One thing that hurts Cam is that she's played less minutes compared to other players, so her total numbers aren't as high as they could be (e.g. points/game, rebounds/game, etc) and that does come into play when choosing POY honors. Tara has her system, but hardly any coach pulls a top player after 1 foul. That does hurt Cam's overall minutes because she might be able to play an extended period without picking up her second. The same goes after getting pulled after her second foul in the third quarter.
Cam should win it; and I expect she will. That's no knock on Jones, just an observation that Cam is better as a post player than anyone else is vis a vis their counterparts. Plus, Cam is a double-double machine, as I expect we'll see from here on out for most games.
My vote is also for Cam. Haley is so important to our team but does anyone think she's had a better season than last year? Her points per game, field goal percentage, 3 point percentage numbers are all down from last year. Her turnovers per game are up. It was mentioned by her that her focus in the offseason was on her outside shooting. I haven't seen any indication that has improved from last year. Her 3 point percentage is reflective of that; 16%.
Cam has been awesome and can be unstoppable when she stays focused and out of foul trouble. I just don't want anyone from Oregon to win the award. We need them to lose at AZ this weekend.
