A big turning point came at the end of the first half. The score was 31-29 UCLA with 3:45 left, and Haase went with one of those puzzling lineups:
Keefe
Beskind
OConnell
Angel
Ingram
Seriously, that lineup wouldn't beat Oregon St this year. On offense, we are basically playing 3 on 5. And its not like this is an all-world defense either. Angel has a long ways to go defensively and is not able to stop Jaquez. Beskind will certainly take a charge, play nice help D, and dive for any loose ball, but he can't stay with quicker guards and he's not a great rebounder either. He is not one of those players who are legitimate stoppers and can be used as a weapon. Given that he will never score, I just don't understand why Haase puts him in ahead of the other alternatives like Silva or Murrell for instance. Or if there's something I'm not seeing about Beskind and he should be on the court, then at least put him in with guys who can score like Delaire or Raynaud instead of Keefe.
To me, this is reckless. These players are not interchangeable and I think the coach is letting his team down when he puts lineups like that on the court.
His only other sub the rest of the half was to bring DeLaire in for Angel at some point.
So, UCLA ends the half on a 10-2 run. Instead of us being right with them at half, we find ourselves down 10.
