I tend to think most people live out their lives as independently as possible from the government that exerts controls over them.  I could see having athletics (or individual health care situation, or marriage, or financial opportunity, or ... ) as one reason to change one's nationality.

I do think an incident in the last 24 hours is telling.  It may suggest that Gu has not absorbed the full impact of living under China rule.
She was asked  "Why can you use Instagram and millions of Chinese people from mainland cannot, why you got such special treatment as a Chinese citizen.  That's not fair, can you speak up for those millions of Chinese who don't have internet freedom"
Her response was "anyone can download a vpn its literally free on the App Store".

[I *hate* the regression of language on such media.]

(Apparently the article's statement "VPNs...are illegal to operate in China" is incorrect.  They apparently are legal if licensed, which then requires a stated purpose.  One article I saw suggested that 30% of internet users in China are using a VPN -- that didn't seem to imply that those are licensed.)

In 2017, Apple said it was removing VPNs from it China App Store.
