I look at Haley's failure to guard her player, leading to easy shots by a wide-open player. I think Haley wants to play being the hero, so you see the things she does, not what she doesn't do. For every time she comes out of the blue to do something great on defense, there's more than one wide-open shot by an opponent. She can slash but has no 3-pt shot (even Cam has a better 3pt%) I'd vote for her for a Most Athletic Player award, but not POY.
Jones in the NCAA tournament last year - 5 for 8 on 3 pointers. Rest of the season - 1 for 9. Someone Something in the water in San Antonio?
And for all of her bad decisions and turnovers (usually on passes), her assist-to-TO ratio still is above 1 (83 to 68 this season, 92 to 78 last season).
Yes, she can get caught out of position on defense (maybe following the ball instead of her player). But she has great instinct on rebounds.
In short, she is an incredibly gifted player who could be more dominant with smarter play and a little more focus.
On a related topic, who should be P12 coach of the year?
