Shaw looked at Hank Bachmeier (presumably Tiger's brother) as a QB for the 2019 class, but decided to offer Helinski instead, and Shaw then whiffed altogether. I hadn't heard much about Hank Bachmeier since that recruiting cycle, but just looked him up. He committed to Boise State where he split time at QB his freshman year and started each of the last two years. Looks like a pretty good player who would have contributed if he had been offered and come to Stanford.
Quick revision:
The plan (as bad as it was) was to not offer a 2019 QB at all. Hilinski was a total last-minute hail mary that didn't work out.
Hank Bachmeier committed to Boise State in May, and turned down a bunch of late P5 suitors trying to flip him later that summer. I doubt a total last-minute hail mary would've changed his mind regardless.
