In the pandemic-shortened sophomore year playing for Murrieta Valley against poor competition, he had 33 catches for 600 yards (18.2 yards per catch) and 6 touchdowns, accounting for 42 percent of the team's passing offense; on defense he had 3.6 tackles per game (13th on the team), 2 forced fumbles (led the team), and 1 fumble recovery; and he returned eight kickoffs for an average of 35 yards per return. As a freshman for Orange Lutheran against spectacular national elite (Trinity League) competition, he had 28 catches for 407 yards (14.5 yards per catch) and 3 touchdowns, accounting for 36 percent of the team's passing offense. In track he has had a 14' 6 pole vault as a junior, an 11.66 100 as a sophomore (there's an 11.27 mentioned but I haven't seen it verified), and a 5' 6 high jump as as sophomore. The track marks are not impressive but he's only had one meet as a junior and has yet to run in the 100 (he did do a 4X100 relay) or compete in any individual events outside of the pole vault, so it will be interesting to hopefully get a more up-to-date read on his athleticism in the coming weeks. That's all the more true in light of the highlights as the junior highlights showed an after-the-catch dimension almost totally lacking from prior highlights, making me even more interested in seeing whether we can corroborate measures of athleticism.
Nice to get on the board in WR recruiting for 2023 as we have significant needs across the offense in this class. If Bachmeier is WR3 in the class that will be really nice. If he's WR1 that might be a problem but it seems like we have some good leads at WR. After seeing Rivals' meh evaluation and how few offers Bachmeier has picked up in the last six months I was expecting to discover a stalled recruitment after a big Trinity League freshman year - that is, a problematic early bloomer like we saw with Bowman, Farrell, and Starr. But he had a quite impressive junior year that lends some credence to the 247 4-star evaluation. I can see a Michael Wilson ceiling here. I would bet on something less, but there's something interesting here. Also, notably, we are in the midst of a bit of a run of guys who were highly productive WRs this fall (Reuben, Thompson, Bachmeier). Given Kennedy's apparent chops as a position coach it's reasonable he can turn this recent WR recruiting into something solid. I still worry about the comedown from our incredible stretch of 2017-2020 WR recruiting, but hopefully we can get 1-2 among Braylon James, Rashid Williams, and Tyler Williams.
