I think there are two critical issues that Stanford and beyond need to deal with:
1. Reduce/remove the stigma of mental health issues. I'd really like to see a lot more celebrity PSAs around this. Not sure how else to really build more awareness and move the needle
2. More mental health awareness training. People need to be more attuned to recognizing the signs in others, and knowing how to approach/help them. In the wake of 3 student suicides in fall quarter, Santa Clara has brought someone in to offer classes. I told the provost that while it's a step in the right direction, they really need to make this training MANDATORY for all students, faculty, and staff. Stanford could - and IMHO should - take that next step
