Question:  I am not familiar with Stanford's org-chart.  At most Universities the Provost has no authority over intercollegiate athletics--that is left to the AD.  The Provost governs the academic side of the house and reports directly to the President, the AD governs athletics and also reports directly to the President.  Is Stanford different?  Can the Provost fire a coach?

I believe that the AD reports to the provost, but I can’t be sure.  When Bowlsby was hired, Etchemendy chaired the search committee:

And when Muir was hired, he was introduced in the press release by Etchemendy (the chair of the search committee was a faculty member).

However, the Stanford org chart is particularly impenetrable to an outsider, so I can’t be sure.
