The current system in the men's tournament is for every game a team from their conference plays in the NCAA tournament they earn 1 unit for their conference. Then the conference divides that money amongst the schools in their conference.
One idea I've heard is to cut the value of the units in half and the women's teams earn a unit for every game they play in the tournament for their conferences. It would incentivize the conferences and schools to invest more money and resources into their women's programs. The units are paid out over 6 years.
So, if they had done that last year, the PAC-12 women's teams would of earned 20 units.
