If you add up the similar sports of indoor & outdoor T&F and CC events (6 of 37 possible championships), that accounts for 155 points advantage of Texas over Stanford. I really don't know how much overlap there is in athletes competing in multiple of those championships.
If there wasn't an artificial 4+15-sport limit, Stanford easily wins. That limitation reduces Stanford's score by more than 200 points.
It doesn't help that the #4 ranked MWP team wasn't allowed to go to the national championship event so got zero points, while (as an example) Texas scores (and keeps) 27 points for a 32nd place finish in W CC. Summed over all teams, a lot more points are scored in a few sports than some of the others.
I think I've heard that the 4+15-sport limit was to prevent large athletic programs like Stanford from having an advantage over smaller athletic programs like Texas.
Texas competed in 20 NCAA sports, scoring in 19 - only Football didn't score.
Stanford competed in 31 of the 37 NCAA sports with team championships (missing WBowl, M&W IH, Rifle, Skiing, MLax),
scored in 25 NCAA sports (missing FB, MBB, MWP, MSOC, MVB(2021), WFH),
but scores counted in only 18 of those sports.
