Sorry, but no Directors' Cup this year. 

Using last year's spring sports scores with this year's fall & winter scores, Stanford falls way short of Texas.
Even if Stanford wins 4x NC in Baseball, WGolf, Row, and WWP, Stanford still comes up short to Texas.

Stanford will likely score more points overall, but the 15-sport limit will take away more than 200 points.  No points would be taken away from Texas.  (One would think they have focused on the 15-sport limit.)

If Stanford won NC in Baseball, WGolf, Row, and WWP, Stanford still loses 1363 to 1326.
It would take adding a NC in Beach VB to push Stanford over the top barely (by 13 points).  Even then, Stanford still loses if Texas wins either of the Men or Women T&F championships (they're ranked #1 in each).

How can this be?  A championship is worth 100 points, but for Stanford, it bumps out another sport that scored about 50 points.  So, for Stanford, national championships only give a net of 50 points.  Stanford can expect to score in 22 sports beyond the exempt 4.

Thanks, MT, great analysis. I had been looking at Stanford's strong possibilities to score points, without understanding the effect of the number of counters limitation, now I see the problem. Unfortunate.
