They were playing behind Estrada with 2 outs in 9th, Giants up 7-1.  That’s the baseball equivalent of clearing the bench.  And you are in no way “extending their pitching staff” at that point.  (Although the article, I think was written prior to that play.)

No bigger Krukow fan than I.  But he’d be signing a different tune if it was the Dodgers and Dave Roberts.
