Thanks, Sam, that was a good response (far more useful to readers than those who just repeat “Shaw inherited a Ferrari and turned it into a Yugo” like some mantra).  I agree with most of it.

I agree. Sam's take was far more detailed, interesting and insightful than my comment that “Shaw inherited a Ferrari and turned it into a Yugo." That said, the mantra still holds true.

Perhaps it's true, but it is really starting to get old.

It’s getting old because all those posters defending Shaw with: all time wins at Stanford, Rose Bowls, coach of the year….now see the light.
