More seriously, FWIW I don't think you are in the minority. I believe that most board members wish that student athletes were exactly that. Most of them also realize that even going back to the 60s it was never quite that simple. However, the ideal existed and at least in theory it was almost universally supported. That is clearly no longer the case, and this lack of an ideal, replacing it with simple business considerations, detracts greatly from my enjoyment college sports.

More seriously, FWIW I don't think you are in the minority. I believe that most board members wish that student athletes were exactly that. Most of them also realize that even going back to the 60s it was never quite that simple. However, the ideal existed and at least in theory it was almost universally supported. That is clearly no longer the case, and this lack of an ideal, replacing it with simple business considerations, detracts greatly from my enjoyment college sports.
