It's nice that Shaw & Co have realized that it's okay to make more offers than there are spots at a given position. As you say, that works itself out in the end and allows for larger classes that address all needs. My sense is that the quality of the class hinges in no small part on whether Shawvita can land Lonergan. He seems like an elite QB, which Stanford needs pretty badly. As of now, I am assuming McKee will enter the NFL draft next Spring, leaving Patu and Daniels as the only scholarship QBs on the roster for 2023. I don't necessarily think Lonergan would start as a true freshman, but Stanford absolutely needs a third QB on the roster that year and it would be nice to finally land another elite player at the game's most important position. Although McKee arrived in 2020, Shawvita hasn't landed a 4-star QB recruit (let alone a QB at Lonergan's level) in the last 4 classes.
