Hard to make any conclusions about 2021 attendance, given that the pandemic changed attendance patterns, with a wide variety of readiness to resume normal activities in a pandemic environment. I would venture that San Franciscans were disproportionately cautious about returning to an event that put them in contact with a large number of other people.

I’m pretty sure that in a normal year, 107 wins and a thrilling sprint to the finish against the Dodgers would have produced a top-5 attendance figure regardless of payroll.
