Network money seems to be the driver for changes in college football conferences. Will there be more money in fewer big conferences for networks to bid on, or independence, handling your own rights?
USC and UCLA were picked for the LA market. The Bay Area is large, but is there a large viewership?
Stanford, and maybe Cal, are top global universities that choose to include athletics as part of a comprehensive and inclusive education. As an independent, they would need to market and stream globally in multiple sports and maybe use NIL to produce and market stories of students and staff.
