He ignored the talent scooped up by recruiters who capitalized on the "early" recruit dates -- ahead of the LOI deadline. Unwise.

As someone who follows recruiting incredibly closely, I'm trying to understand what you mean. 

Are you referring to the 2018 cycle, where the new early signing period totally screwed things up because first semester senior year grades weren't out before the earlier Dec LOI date and the stupid January slumber party was still a thing?
