Great memories, fun times, memorable victories for a lifetime...but for me, the almost cancellation of the 2020 season, the "show me your papers" attendance policy, and wokeness ruined it for me. I stopped attending and paying attention the last two seasons to all sports, not just Stanford, cancelled my cable and really don't feel like I missed out on much except the 2022 baseball season.
From my earliest childhood memories, I'll always remember in attendance for: Big Game '78 (Darren Nelson reversing field for a TD), UCLA '79 (Naber's 56 yard game winning FG), '82 UW (Elway and Vinny White punt return for TD), '90 Big Game (9 points in like 12 seconds, revenge of the Play), '91 at USC (Stenstrom to Walsh for game winning TD catch, Milburn key 4th down run on final drive, USC misses potential game tying FG at end, beer served in stadium, drunk), '91 Big Game (TD Tommy), '92 USC (Lynch the Impaler), '01 Oregon (Fasani goes down, Lewis to Johnson, on-side kick, crazy win), '12 Oregon (Ertz catch, Williamson game winning FG, solid defense), and a few recent ones.
I worked backstage crew with Vince White for one of Huey Lewis' first large conference (he sold out Toso, we squeezed 6,000 in there). He was a really good guy. Liked him immensely.
Funny you bring up Vincent White. Great guy. Hope he's doing well. My mom used to work at Stanford with his girlfriend at the time (during college) named Sydney (I think that was her name) and Vinny and Sydney came over our place for dinner before his senior year. I was a young kid at the time and in awe of him as he sat next to me at the dinner table with his thick biceps and I asked a lot of questions. Stubby VW.
