However, I can't help but think that Luck knew he wasn't "right" after his shoulder injury. He gutted out a year after starting slow. While at times he played great, I suspect he did it on sheer willpower. He undoubtedly figured it was all downhill physically from there on out and there was no lower limit on how bad it could get. Retiring on his own terms was much better than being PUP and retiring in five years.
So many parallels between his early NFL careers and Plunketts. First pick. Organization savior. Both got the hell beat out of them. With organizations that couldn’t seem to get the fact that you need to protect such an asset. Fairbanks hurt Plunkett. Arians hurt Luck. Organizational malfeasance.
