May 5, 1958 at Seals Stadium….
Pittsburgh led 11-1 and SF scored nine runs to close the gap to 11-10 before losing the game. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that either Bob K. or Phogge were at that game. I was home listening on the radio.
On the radio, I remember another 9th inning comeback against the Pirates in '73. Giants down 7-1 going into bottom of 9th. Walk-out-out-walk-walk, Chris Arnold PH grand slam to make it 7-5 with 2 outs. Then they got the bases loaded and Bobby Bonds comes through with a walkoff bases-loaded double. I think Bonds got the walk leading off that inning and also the walkoff hit.
Of course my friends and I were pretty far gone at that point, but I'm damn sure it really happened!
