Hawaii is a complete trainwreck.
They hired Todd Graham 2 years ago, he was an ok coach but was hated by everyone and had zero relationship with Hawaii whatsoever, and players mutinied. 15 players - including at least 9 starters - transferred out this past offseason.
Graham was fired for Timmy Chang, a former Hawaii player and first-time HC whose most recent (and highest level of) experience was WR coach at Colorado State. First-time, not-ready-for-prime-time coach with a brand new system and totally gutted team. They had some guys transfer in, sure, but a bunch were little-used backups from P5s who don't have much actual game experience. There are gigantic growing pains when this type of complete rebuild happens. We're hoping the same is true with USC next week.
ALSO, Vandy's new QB looks to be pretty good, or at least very athletic and a good runner. I bet that didn't show up at all on tape, since he hasn't played.
It was a reasonably close game until Vandy scored 35 unanswered points in the third quarter.
Their new quarterback had quite a day. Over 300 yards total offense, 4TD's running and passing and averaged 12.5 yards per run.
It will be interesting to see how he does against better competition. He had a reasonably impressive offer list with Harvard being one of the schools interested. Wonder if we had any interest?
