Yikes! Almost half of Starting QB’s (including a majority of PAC-12 QB’s) are transfers. That’s not really the way this is supposed to work.
I believe in giving student athletes agency to do what they feel is in their best interests. Nonetheless, looking at this outcome, I am left thinking that academics have very little to do with these calculations, and that some recalibration is needed. I am hopeful that once the extra COVID year is out of everyone’s system (that is, in two years when the then freshmen are fifth years), things might revert a bit. But I worry that we are at a new normal, one where the opportunity to start trumps any and all academic considerations.
