They are trying to win. I don't blame the athletes. They are trying to maximize their future return by obtaining playing exposure.
I most emphatically do blame the administrators (presidents, chancellors, etc.) who have allowed their universities to become academic travesties where they admit people who want to learn football and care about little else. The student-athlete became a myth because these people allowed (in many cases helped) it be so.
And because so many people are ok treating coaching as labor worthy of pay but not viewing the actual playing as labor worthy of pay.
