The problem is not just whether football should be eliminated or downgraded, but whether that can be done without doing the same for all the other sports.  It would be a shame if the problems with football meant we had to go to Div II or Div III in WBB, WVB, men's and women's soccer, etc.  Quite apart from budgetary requirements, is it possible to be DIV I in some sports and Div II or III in others?  Perhaps limping along in football is the price that has to be paid to have top teams in the other sports that have not been as corrupted as football has.
