With all due respect, too many participation ribbons given out by this board.
Short answer: men's team sucked on Saturday. Other than Charles and Ky, they totally blew it. No excuses, it is what it is.
Cole gets a pass because presumably the hamstring issue was the reason for his terrible race. No one else gets a pass. Meika, Thomas, Devin and Evan all ran terribly. Even if you slot Cole in with Ky, they're still fourth! That's simply embarrassing. Meika said he was coming down with something, but either suck it up or Ricardo should have run one of the alternates.
And, no, getting 4th was not a "very good" result as someone said. They were the favorites and justifiably so. This isn't basketball or football where there are lucky or unlucky bounces or hot streaks from behind the arc or wild turnovers. Running usually holds pretty close to form and upsets are rare. Getting a distant 4th was a disaster.
Seriously? As a former CC runner for Stanford, I will agree with you that it’s a simple sport. You just go out there and give it everything you have on any particular day. Some days are better than others. That’s how it is. I don’t know what you are suggesting here. Our guys didn’t give the best they had? They were all out boozing hard the night before? What more did you want than what they gave? What more do you think they could have given? They don’t run for your entertainment. I’m sure they are far more disappointed than you are.
Good for you. Not sure who you are, but I'm a former CC runner for Stanford too. Someone asked what happened, and there was some notion that it was still a good day finishing 4th. Nope, they stunk it up. Sure, there were four legit contenders but this was a distant fourth and they had crushed at prenats and at Nuttycombe. Not saying they weren't trying or were boozing the night before, but no participation ribbons here. As I said, Cole was hurt, fine. Slot him in with Ky and they're still fourth. The other 4 guys cr@pped the bed. It is what it is. No excuses.
