I’m relatively certain an HC has a pretty good feeling of his “standing”. Short of a player revolt, I doubt he is going anywhere.

I doubt Jack Elway, Buddy Teevens, or even Walt Harris had a good feeling of their standing. Maybe Harris did but his ego probably didn't allow him to look at the situation objectively (which BTW is also one of Shaw's biggest shortcomings).
