The more announcements of coaches departing their roles, the better.

Being excited about new hires is one thing but can we avoid celebrating the firing of assistant coaches who have invested countless hours into the program, most of whom have families to support? Unlike Shaw who made millions, those guys will be scrambling for their next pay check.

A good friend of mine was recently let go, his fourth time. In two of the three situations, he did much, MUCH better than his prior job, and the third was essentially a lateral move. I've been let go twice, both times I ended up in a MUCH better situation. If I were to be let go now, I know exactly what I'd do, and if one of my seven direct reports had to be let go (e.g., if my CEO forced my hand), I know exactly what I'd advise them.

Getting fired isn't the end of the world, and in many cases the door that opens leads to a better path than the door that closed.
