You are absolutely correct. Football coaching isn't that big a pool, especially at the higher end. Everybody knows everybody, and there is lots of mentorship/"taking care of" others. If you aren't at least connected somewhat to other opportunities, it is on you. I can't imagine that, given the state of their record, all the assistants hadn't checked out landing sports. An elementary precaution.
